This new study by researchers at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California has found that foods rich in potassium, including many fruits and vegetables, may be essential to lowering blood pressure.
More than 1 billion people worldwide suffer from high blood pressure or hypertension, and according to the World Health Organization (WHO), hypertension is the cause of 51 percent of deaths due to stroke and 45 percent of deaths that from heart disease.
These facts had researchers looking for anything that might naturally lower blood pressure, which got Researchers at the Keck Scool of Medicine studying the association between blood pressure and dietary sodium, potassium and the sodium-potassium ratio and found that higher dietary potassium was linked to lower blood pressure, regardless of the person’s sodium intake.
